We Help Entrepreneurs Become Known, Trusted, and Paid For How They Think.
The biggest risk for entrepreneurs is becoming a Visible Commodity who is known only for what they do. Because when what you do can be automated, copied, or compared, you become commoditized.

JR Lay Had to Build His Own Authority First
Before founding Built Authority, JR spent more than 20 years as an entrepreneur in financial services.
After years of growth, his business started to feel commoditized. Prospects ignored calls and emails. Competitors won on price. Referrals were no longer enough.
This forced JR to confront the real issue: he was known for what his company did, but not clearly known for how he thought.
He unknowingly had become a Visible Commodity.
Becoming Known, Trusted, and Paid For Your Thinking
After JR published his first book, he became known, trusted, and paid for how he thought — not just what he did. His Banking on Digital Growth platform, comprised of IP assets, workshops, and consulting generated multiple seven figures in revenue.
He further built the platform by launching one of the top 3% of podcasts in the world, becoming a global keynote speaker, and publishing a second book.
Eventually, the Banking on Digital Growth platform was acquired. JR went on to found Built Authority with a mission to help other entrepreneurs be known, trusted, and paid for how they think — not just what they do.

When Your Wisdom Goes Uncaptured
Built Authority is not only about visibility, market trust, or revenue. It is also about stewardship.
When JR’s father-in-law, Joe Dow, passed away at the age of 86, he left behind a wife who he shared 50 years of marriage with, six children, fourteen grandchildren, and a life of service that helped secure the lives and futures of millions of people.
He also left behind more than 60 years of entrepreneurial wisdom he gained from living the American dream as an immigrant.
The Most Valuable Asset You Can Leave Behind
The perspective Joe gained from building his business, solving problems, and learning through difficult challenges lived mostly in conversations, memories, and moments.
When he passed, much of that wisdom went with him because it was never fully captured.
That loss helped shape the deeper purpose behind Built Authority: to help entrepreneurs preserve and transfer the greatest asset they have — their wisdom.
